The citizens of Stilwell have always felt they had a very unique and special lifestyle in their community of Southern Johnson County. It’s a blend of semi-rural along with those of agricultural. They realize that they are part of the Kansas City area, but feel they offer a quality of community that is so different from suburbia.   Their vision is unique from the mainstream, instead of being part of a big city of Overland Park and the annexation.  Stilwell residents want their own sense of community as they currently have it! As an example, on July4th each year, the residents come to together and have a huge community parade where there are over 100+ participants along with the best and longest fireworks shows!  They don’t want to be the same as many other cities just to redesign the landscape and develop tax basis.  But they want to enjoy the resources, maintain the lifestyle & expand with integrity.

On Feb. 4, 2008, a petition for the requested Stilwell incorporation was filed with the Board of Johnson County Commissioners.  On Feb 29, 2008 the County Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution to set the April 9th public hearing.  A tentative site for the hearing is Blue Valley High School on 159 St. The hearing will allow the Board to hear a presentation about the proposed incorporation of Stilwell and public comments.  The petition is to incorporate Stilwell between approximate boundaries of 167 St to 215 St. from State Line Road to Anitoch Road.  So come and voice your opinion and let the Board hear your voice on April 9^th 7 pm.
