Overland Park annexation is one step closer to being approved

Overland Park annexation is one step closer to being approved

OP_Doubletree.jpgOverland Park annexation is one step closer to being approved

On Monday night, the City Council of Overland Park has approved the annexation of 15 square miles into their city limits is one step closer.  The city council claimed that they can't stop development regardless of the annexation.  It's based on sewers, which the city has no control of.

They predict that the population of south Johnson County will grow over 300% over the next 20+ years. SO development is necessary, they claim.  The local residents are afraid that they won't gain any more services than they aleady have. Plus they moved out in South Johnson County to be in the rural area, not the city. Will the property values increase in the area as development moves south?  Time will tell!  All that is needed now is the approval from Johnson County.  Overland Park continues to march further south!

Tax change in Missouri might make Kansas Legislators rethink tax programs for bi-state cooperation and other programs

Tax change in Missouri might make Kansas Legislators rethink tax programs for bi-state cooperation and other programs

Gov. Matt Blunt has reopened the differences between the Kansas and Missouri as in the civil war. He had signed a bill that will provide an income tax break eliminating the deduction for real estate taxes paid outside the state of Missouri. Keep in mind that Missouri has 2 major cities on both east and west side of the state, Kansas City and St. Louis.  Many of the metros residents might live and work in different states. This new law will affect many in amount owed in taxes.   Kansas legislators have been hearing from many angry constituents. Some of the representatives are considering retaliation. This could make lawmakers want to repeal bi-state programs that benefit Union Station & other programs. This could impact interstate cooperation. It will be interesting to watch what happens next.

Overland Park is proposing on expanding it real estate & land borders

ClockTower.jpgOverland Park is proposing on expanding it real estate & land borders

The city of Overland Park is at it again.  They're working on plans to do one of the largest annexation of real estate to it's south....in the unincorporated areas of Johnson County, Stilwell area.  They are considering 15 square miles!  The last time Overland Park had tried to gulp 11 square miles the local homeowners of Stilwell came out in droves to fight that annexation. In 2002,  One of the residents had compared Overland Park to William Quaintrill who had raided Lawrence back in the 1860's.

Many of the residents really don't want to be Incorporated into the city lifestyle. The Stilwell homeowners are concerned about the future growth of Overland Park.  They have all moved to Stilwell to be away from the big city and have a quality of life you can't find in the suburban areas. Stilwell homeowners usually live on 1+ acre and upwards.  But Overland Park
