Overland Park begins registration for investment properties

Overland Park Logo Overland Park begins registration for investment properties.

Overland Park joined several other cities this year in passing an ordinance to require registration of the properties owned as rental property. That can include single family homes, duplexes, triplexes in Overland Park. The information is supposed to be used for record keeping and to contact the owner in the event of code violations and emergencies at the property. Monday, Dec 31, 2007 is the last day you can pay annual fee without a penalty. Late fees are applied to those not paid by the end of the year.

Is this another way for the city to collect additional revenues? Is this really just another type of tax? Is this a fair way to keep up with code violations? Or is the city targeting only those who offer housing for rent? What happens to the homeowners who have code violations? Will they be required to keep up their properties as well? So it will be very interesting to see how things are handled thru the city.

I have attached a link to Overland Park website to check out the details. Other cities have similar registrations.
