OVERLAND PARK MAKES TOP 10 OF "AMERICAS BEST PLACES TO LIVE"
Overland Park is ranked sixth by MONEY magazine in its list of "Americas Best Places to Live" in their August 2006 magazine issue.
"To finish among the Top 10 cities in the nation is outstanding," said Mayor Carl Gerlach. "Overland Park has so much to offer its residents, businesses and visitors," the Mayor added, "and its wonderful that MONEY recognizes that."
"The communitys attributes are key advantages when working with companies, and are important to families moving to Overland Park," Gerlach said.
Over the past year, the city of Overland Park has added more than 3,000 jobs with new companies, such as Quintiles and Prescription Solutions, and the expansion of Capital One Home Loans. Overland Park was ranked 30th last year.
MONEY stated in its August 2006 issue, that part of the recognition of Overland Park included the fact it had "abundant high-paying jobs and affordable housing," and the city also scored high for safety."Americans are flocking to places that offer big-city opportunity and amenities with a lot more green space and a lot less stress," MONEY stated. MONEY said it "(S)et out to find small livable cities that had the best possible blend of good jobs, low crime, quality schools, plenty of open space, rational home prices and lots to do."
