The city of Overland Park is at it again.  They're working on plans to do one of the largest annexation of real estate to it's south....in the unincorporated areas of Johnson County, Stilwell area.  They are considering 15 square miles!  The last time Overland Park had tried to gulp 11 square miles the local homeowners of Stilwell came out in droves to fight that annexation. In 2002,  One of the residents had compared Overland Park to William Quaintrill who had raided Lawrence back in the 1860's.

Many of the residents really don't want to be Incorporated into the city lifestyle. The Stilwell homeowners are concerned about the future growth of Overland Park.  They have all moved to Stilwell to be away from the big city and have a quality of life you can't find in the suburban areas. Stilwell homeowners usually live on 1+ acre and upwards.  But Overland Park  is bound and determined to stretch from county line to county line.  Being that Overland Park is considering annexing, they're wanting to expand just south of 199 St.  City of Overland Park wants to make sure that they have plenty of land available for future new homes developments.  Exactly what the local homeowners didn't want, 5 houses per acre.  So it will be interesting to see how it plays out.  We'll keep you posted on future developments.
